there is a difference

the reconnect/improved trading is a flat unambiguous statement while the storage is wide open to opinion as to what it means.

Anyway, I doubt this will happen because of the aforementioned reason, although I'd be pleasantly surprised if they do.
hmmm... perhaps i'm oversimplifying, but according to your calculations, wouldn't 2 stacks of 250 equal the same byte size as a stack of 500?

also, (excuse my programming ignorance here) it seems as though you're calculating a stack as 1+1+1+1...etc. until you get 250, equalling nearly a byte. wouldn't it make sense to store it as a numeric integer rather than a pile of 1s?

finally, 1 byte over 2 million people adds up to about 2 gigs. not a tremendous amount of hd space or bandwidth imho.

Here is a quote from Alex Weekes from NCSoft Europe:

Features such as improved trade mechanisms, storage and more are free updates. They'll be added to the game, at no cost, as soon as the individual features are ready.
I'll let you be the judge of that

Yes, if you do 2 stacks of 250, that's exactly 2 bytes. But if you do one stack of 500, that's 2^9=512, which is 9 bytes. If you round that up to 2 bytes, you will have wasted 7 bits.

Heh, I plan to have stacks of multiple materials. I think there're 20 or so materials right now, so that 20 bytes per person, which is 200 gigs. Plus ANet likes to keep backup copies and so forth

2 stacks of 250=2 bytes.

2 stacks of 500=4 bytes

even an empty slot would take up that 2 bytes to display it.

this would not be only storage vault but every characters inventory in the game as well since the inventory has to match (byte wise)when you move things around.

All these claims that Anet or a representative of Anet stated that this content would be universal to all chapters. Can someone please post a link to a post/chat session etc that states this?

So far I've seen comments on certain content being free but nobody as yet has been able to provide proof that the above statements were actually made.

thank you i will.

we have storage.

i interpret this additional as extra storage for people who have additional items to store that chapter 1 people dont.

these come to mind at a blink and i am sure there will be more.
tengu mask
dragon mask
rice wine
bean cakes
Cantha armor (5 pieces minimum one set)

what i want is an event items tab

Please keep in mind that this storage update adds additional storage for materials only. Only two new materials were introduced in Factions, namely Jadeit and Amber. The vast majority of materials are still pan-chapter, actually, you can even buy/sell Jadeit/Amber at the trader in Prophecies. I personally have a hard time justifying this for this particular reason.

this is true but having neither of the two materials mentioned i will still be able to move a stack of this and that freeing up about 10-12 slots which will let me use the general slots for the items mentioned plus a wee bit more.

with the above mentioned new armor/event items i am getting very cramped with only the original space.

and i think everybody could use an events tab for the goodies

this is a good idea. too bad i don't have factions yet.

i'd like to ask everyone, how many piles of each crafting material do you keep in storage? one pile of 250? two or three piles? none?

At the moment I have 2 piles of crafting materials in my box (steel and wood), the rest is full of armor and weapons/mods and a couple of other random items. My crafting materials tend to stay on character until they reach stacks of 10 for the more common ones like iron & leather and then they go to the trader.

The amount of a given material is directly related to how useful it is, in value or something else. Or, whatever drops the most. I have typically 2-3 stacks of wood and iron, but maybe 1 of everything else. Right now, I have a 1/4 stack of cloth to my name, as I had to sell it all to get my 15k.

Yep, this means I will actually start using the salvage kit again

Used to be that I'd just buy any materials I needed, cos I don't want them taking up space in my inventory...

ANet said in a few weeks about two weeks ago. So if they're true to their word, it should be any time now.

sweet. As on page 1, I would rather have all purpose storage, but most of it would go to materials anyway so this is pretty cool... Now we just have to hope for Rune storage and Dye storage.

Good thing I have Factions so I won't miss out on the update. I feel sorry for chapter1 only owners. Faction only owners will soon be treated as second class citizens after chapter 3 comes out, watch and see.

Between the eggnogs, absinthes, rice wines, etc., there's one tab we truly need beyond all others.

Liquor cabinet.
